Infopedia Media had a basic video player but it was buggy, poorly designed, and did not fit well within the newly expanded organizational objectives of integrating learning features. The existing video player lacked desired functionality such as learning paths and training, chapters, the ability to download related materials as PDFs, PPTs, etc.
Project Goal
I was asked to create an end to end UX/UI upgrade encompassing both the end users (media consumers) as well as the backend (the admin role posting the media as well splitting videos into chapters, locking chapters, writing descriptions, etc). Leadership wanted the ability to track viewers’ progress, so we needed the ability to lock future chapters and track viewing. There was also an ask to integrate the ability to add a call to action or related asset download link (such as a PPT deck summarizing the video’s content) into the video player itself.
Process
I worked to craft a clean, modern and minimal design that hit all of the feature requests using cards and popup preview. I integrated a basic workflow for the backend admin role as well. I went through 7 or 8 iterations with the stakeholders within a week or so, and got the designs approved and ready for development.
Results
The video player became much more feature-rich and easy to use. The look and feel of the player was vastly upgraded using consistent, modern card UI. The org’s objectives to integrate chapters, previews, learning resources, and locked future chapters for progressive learning and tracking were all fulfilled.
